There are very few times in life when you can truly clean your slate and get a brand new “fresh start”. For me, I am lucky to have 2 of those very moments at the same time: 1) Getting married and 2) starting a new company.
Getting married is quite an experience. For those of you who know me well, you know that I was not a fan of having the traditional large wedding ceremony, not to mention the awkward moments that normally transpire during these festivities. My vote was on eloping, however, as I was well prepared by close friends, “when it comes to wedding plans, just zip it, nod your head and answer every question yes dear”. Its funny looking back on the event that just happened 2 weeks ago – and I have to say, I don’t think anyone had a better time than I did (well maybe except my mother). On May 5th (yes cinco de mayo), I married the love of my life and became one of the luckiest guys in the world. As a bonus she also happens to be one of the best criminal defense attorneys here in Boston (sweetie, I promise to finish your website soon). It was a wonderful experience and one that I will treasure forever. Thank you all who participated in this magical event, you are all dear friends and we loved that you shared in that special weekend.
One of the many very awesome qualities that my now wife has, is the ability to share. I bring this up because I am about to become consumed by my newest startup; and my wife is so generously going to share me with this “thing” called BlockAvenue. For those of you who are new to startups or are considering joining a startup, one of the basic fundamentals you need to understand is that there is no such thing as hours in a day or weekends – its just one giant (hopefully awesome) experience of time blurred together with some pizza and beer along the way. As I embark on our new journey from shipping our first beta product to acquiring our first customer and beyond the journey will be rich in experience & fun, but will consume a massive amount of time from the founding team. Unlike The 4 Hour Work Week, written by lifestyle hacker and legend Tim Ferris, starting a new company is the exact opposite and could be summed up as “The 168 hour work week”.
